As the deal with Comcast is finalized, so is the new NBC logo.  The thought behind the new logo is to show the unity of the two divisions.  No space, no branded peacock (except as part of the broadcast logo), no Universal circle.  What do you think?

                         Frank Shepard Fairey began as a Street Artist.  With a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and an interest in the skateboarding “underground” world Shepard Fairy, the name he goes by in his professional life, made a name for himself with his stenciling, collage work, and graffiti art that has tagged public walls for years.  His collections including Andre the Giant (OBEY), and the HOPE poster, made in support of President Barack Obama’s campaign, are also featured in The Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York to name a few. 

Featuring OBEY as this weeks Wearable Wednesday was suggested by one of our newbies here.  And, I thought, “Why didn’t I think of that?”  After all we have 3 of his posters framed in our halls.  His work is nothing if not controversial, sending a message through art…you either support him or not, but he is definitely respected around our office.  So, this week I went around and had some of the staff pick their favorites.  You can buy these or select your own at OBEY Clothing.

I chose to write a little ditty about Snapple today simply because I like the drink (who doesn’t? seriously find me 1 person!) and I like their company culture.  The name itself originated from their first drink in 1972.  It was a carbonated apple juice that had a “snappy apple taste.”  There are currently 4 types of Snapple drinks including tea, juice, bottled water, and lemonade.  The Snapple slogan is “Made From the Best Stuff on Earth.”  They stay pretty true to their slogan by making their drinks with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

I like Snapple’s promotions.  Their commercials are silly yet informative.  They constantly keep you wanting to buy more- for the obvious reason- because you are thirsty but also to read their “Real Facts” on the caps.  There is even a challenge to collect all the caps and be Snapply.  We can really learn from a company like Snapple about how to put out a quality product while still having fun.  Not every company can of course be so loose with their lingo.  I mean, I really don’t want my bank telling me I’m going to earn interest on my money when the monkey comes down from the mountain top!  But, as I always say each company has to build their own brand and Snapple (in my opinion) has done an excellent job.  They know their target audience and keep them coming back for more.

Here is where I would normally post one of their hilarious commercials for you to view.  Instead I want you to check out the Snapple website.  You can get lost in it.  There are retired real facts to read, videos, it’s interactive and playful.  In the Pursuit of Bestness I think Snapple has won.  (Pictured: My favorite Flavor.)

Oh yeah, one more thing, compressed tees would be a great fit for Snapple.  The branded bottle shape would make the perfect shape!
